2012 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival!

The Big Sky DOC. Film Festival …In It’s 9th year, Missoula will be presented with the finest in documentary film from around the world. The 2012 installment includes more then 140 films from more then 30 countries a selection chosen from nearly 1000 submissions. The program is truly distinguished, offering the most diverse exhibition of work to ever screen under the Big Sky.

Here’s a couple film’s that Strongwater has marked on the calendar:

Riding Giants: The film traces the origins of surfing and specifically focuses on the art of big wave riding. Some of the featured surfers are Greg Noll, Laird Hamilton, and Jeff Clark, and surfing pioneers such as Mickey Munoz. The film is narrated and directed by famous skater/surfer Stacey Peralta.

Show time: Saturday Feb. 25th @ 1:00pm -Wilma 2 theater

Dogtown and Z Boys: Using a mix of film the Zephyr skateboard team shot in the 1970′s ad more recent interviews, the group documentary tells the story of a group of teenage surfer/skateboarders and their influence on the history of skateboarding (and to a lesser extent surfing) culture. The film is narrated by Sean penn

Winter Storm Pounds Missoula!

Missoula has been pounded with snow for the last 3 days or so! This is good news not only for shredding the mountain, but also for the Spring run-off. Things were looking a little slim there for a while. The temps are back on the rise today, so the rivers should start to rise also. Keep on the alert for ice dams etc… if you are hitting the river…Otherwise we hope all our customers are loving the slopes!

Icy Waters

Chad-Addleman, Luke and myself did a little East Missoula to Higgins Bridge “AKA Hellgate Paddle” this last Saturday. It was a beautiful day. The sun was shinning and it was a Tropical 38 degrees out. The ice berg looking things were big slush bergs. Once we reached town, we decided to really blow peoples minds, by diving into the slush bergs and swimming around like it was July! It’s amazing what an Xcel 5-4-3 wetsuit can do. Anyway it was a super fun paddle and now a snow storm is on the way, so maybe we’ll be back to the slopes for a few days…

2011 was an amazing year. Strongwater surfed its way through the seasons again in 2011. Here’s a list of a few 2011 highlights along with a special photo from each of the last 12 months.

January: Epic Powder! Lot’s of snowboarding at Snowbowl…Triple Bridge wave was in, so we shredded that too…KB wins “Missoula’s Downtowner of the Year Award”!

February: More of the same!

March: We Moved into our new shop…Began surfing Diagonal wave on our SUP’s… We’re able to catch it on the fly standing.

April: Who Is J.O.B. video premiere…more Diagonal wave surfing…Boat & Board Swap…River Clean-up!

May: Spring Run-off Begins…Best in the West Kayak Rodeo…River Surfing Brennan’s wave…River Surfing Pipeline Wave…SUP-n down the Blackfoot River…

June: Catching the elusive big river wave ‘Serpant’s Tongue” located on the Missouri River on our SUP’s…Montana Whitewater Championships…River Surfing Brennan’s wave & Pipeline…Lose it on the Lochsa

July: Thursday Night Throwdowns…Clash of the Clarkfork…Ladies SUP Nights…1^st Annual River Pig SUP Challenge!

September: Surf-n-Turf (took 5 new people down the Gorge in kayaks and on SUPs)…the Endless Summer Sale, BBQ (end of season customer appreciation BBQ)

October: Oregon Surf Trip…discovered we are able to paddle on Zero Wave at Triple Bridges (major SUP break through)…

November: More Triple Bridges Surfing…Ski resorts open up week before Thanksgiving…back to snow sports!

December: Holidays…Super dry and cold…We discover how fun East Missoula to town (Hellgate stretch) is on the SUP’s in winter time… jibbing ice bergs…A little snowboarding…some Triple Bridge Surfing

Well 2011 was fun and busy year! Here at Strongwater, we are blown away each day, just how fast time goes bye. Another year is in the books. Strongwater is focused on 2012. We are going into our 4^th business year! We also can’t wait to snowboard, paddle and surf on all our local Mountains, river and lakes. We are looking forward to making 2012 the best year of our lives yet!
